Daily new Reports another 18 vehicle break-ins

Vehicle crimes are on the rise and we can’t seem to turn on the news without hearing about another theft or vandalism. This is because our area is ranked in the top 100 metro areas in the country for Vehicle theft. Factory security systems are also contributing to this problem. This is because they truly give vehicle owners a FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY because they don’t truly protect your vehicles contents like a true car alarm would.

FBI Logo

According to FBI Statistics over 3,000 vehicles are broken into each day in the US alone.

According to the FBI, nationwide there were an estimated 1.2 million + motor vehicle thefts, with property losses estimated at $7.9 billion, averaging nearly $6,650 per stolen vehicle. And that doesn’t take into account the value of contents stolen from vehicles ($1.3 billion) plus accessories like wheels, airbags and headlights stolen off vehicles (nearly $530 million). Over 3,000 vehicles per day are stolen every 26 seconds.

8 of the top 10 stolen vehicles come factory equipped with factory security systems not including vehicle break-ins. This statistic alone should help illustrate the true in-effectiveness of factory security systems. You may think your brand new vehicle would be protected with a state of the art security system, but your wrong. Instead the vast majority of vehicles only have keyless entry with some having transponder chip keys to help detour theft, but does nothing to protect against break-ins or real thieves.

TOYOTA FACTORY SECURITY KEY

Toyota Factory Security Key w/ keyless entry.

Most people simply assume that the remote that they come home from the dealership that flashes the lights and occasionally honks the horn is a factory security system. But its not a TRUE CAR ALARM VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEM, its just a keyless entry with some flashing lights. Also, people see an LED flashing on their dash and assume this signifies the presence of a  TRUE CAR ALARM and instead its just a dummy light to deter theft, but has nothing to do with a car alarm system. Now, this isn’t to say that there isn’t ANY security on your vehicle, but its definitely ineffective compared to a quality CAR ALARM SYSTEM from Alarms, ETC.

Want to check for yourself and determine if you have a keyless entry system or some form of a Factory Security System? Try rolling down your window half way and then lock your door with your factory remote. Now reach in and open the door using the inside door handle (if the door doesn’t open slide the manually unlock knob (NOT THE BUTTON)). When the door opens are there any audible warnings? Does your horn honk? Does the car do anything? No horn = No Factory Security System. If the horn at least honks, or there is some other form of alert that the vehicle has been tampered with, then you may have SOME form of a factory security system, but only if they decide to open your door.

Factory security systems don't protect against break-ins

Factory security systems don't protect against break-ins

Very few factory security systems have any form of impact or glass breakage sensor. Because of this even the rare vehicles that do have some form of a factory security system don’t do anything to protect your vehicles contents. And to make matters even worse, above where we told you how to verify if your car has a factory security system or not, we pointed out NOT to use the electric lock button to open the door. Some factory security systems are not only deactivated by the factory remote, but also deactivate themselves upon receiving an Electronic unlock command. Obviously this is a huge drawback since most people automatically reach for the unlock button, instead of the manual lock.

And don’t under estimate the risk of your vehicle being broken into or stolen. The more common the vehicle the more at risk as the thieves are interested in stripping and selling the car off in parts. This means a minivan is at the same risk as a Camry and in fact both those vehicles are a HIGHER RISK than your typical sports car. (The more rare the car is the less its stolen due to thieves not being able to sell the parts without risk of being caught).

Plus the cost of a vehicle theft or break-in doesn’t simply stop at the property damage but your insurance does. Most policies won’t cover personal items stolen and this is EXTREMELY important. The average stolen vehicle costs the owner almost $7,000 and insurance only covers a fraction of that.

Person Broke

Don't cost yourself thousands of dollars by leaving your vehicle unprotected with a FALSE factory security system

Then there are all the headaches and hassles that go with it too. You’ll need to be dealing with police reports, insurance companies, trying to find receipts for the stuff thats missing, you may have to rent a car or bum rides. Plus, you’ll be uncertain as to what to do next. Do you start looking for a new car or wait to find out if yours is coming back (possibly in pieces). And most thieves are just interested in your car, but also your credit cards, cash, personal items and even identity theft.

Simply put a factory security system actually leaves you very much unprotected and in our opinion you can never have too much security. Security = peace of mind + less headaches. This seems like a winning combination to us. Stop by and allow us to verify the presence or absence of a factory security system and show you have little a new fully featured car alarm can cost you (AND SAVE YOU IN THE LONG RUN)!
