Mobile Video systems for your car have actually been around alot longer than most people realize. People have been putting video screens in their car since the early 90′s. They come in a variety of formats and sizes. Some of the most common mobile video screen sizes are 3″, 5.8″, 6″, 6.1″, 6.95″, 7″, 9″, 9.2″, 10″ ,10.4″, 12″ and even larger in some rare cases. Screen size isn’t measured in width, its actually measured diagonally just like it in for your home TV’s.

There are a variety of screen sizes and styles for no matter what location you're looking to add video to.
What screen size you choose is going to depend alot on where you wish to install it. It’s also going to depend on what you intend on using it for. You can install mobile video screens just about anywhere you could imagine in your car. Some of the most common locations are in sun visors, headrests, in dash radio, portable screens mounted on the dash and then of course there are a variety of locations to show them off too! Typical uses of mobile video screens are back-up monitors, GPS Navigation, smart phone integration, DVD Video, rear seat entertainment and of course just for flash (shows).
Most in-dash video screens fall between the 5.8″ and the 7″ with a few exceptions. For example we carry a fully motorized in dash video screen that flips out into a full 8.3″ screen! Although if you are looking for something a little crazier, we’ve been known to custom mold as large as 21″ screens into your car’s dash. Or for the tech geek in all of us, we can even mold an IPAD into your dash instead of an in-dash video screen. With in dash video screens you open a wide range of doors from in car computing, IPOD control, GPS Navigation and so much more!
For Sun-visors and headrest the typical sizes are from 7″ – 9″. Some headrests can’t accommodate screens though without some serious customization. And then depending on which headrest or sun visor package we set you up with, some have DVD players built in and others need an alternative video source. Sun visor screens are commonly purchased for show purposes. Headrest screens are not only great rear seat entertainment pieces, but also can increase the value and enhance the appearance of your interior.
Our number 1 selling mobile video pieces just so happen to be some of our largest screen sizes, too. Drop down video screens are by far the most popular choice for mobile video. They are most commonly used as a make shift backseat babysitter. Screen sizes for over head mobile video screens range from as small as 7″ (although its rare they are smaller than 9″) and are as large as 27″ (with some custom applications using up to 42″ plasma in the rear of a show vehicles).
The typical size for for Overhead mobile video screen is 10″. It’s a nice overall size that is large enough to be easily seen from any seat in the vehicle, but not too large as to be an eye sore or obstruction to the driver. It’s also important to keep the weight in mind when doing a simple overhead screen. Screens much larger than 12″ can often times put too heavy of a load on the ceiling of your vehicle. But don’t worry, our experts at Alarms, ETC are familiar with all vehicle makes and models and know what our limits are. But, if you still want that ridiculous screen that would give the local AMC a run for their money, we’ll be able to fabricate a custom monitor set-up for you. Big or small we’ve got them all. Stop by and check out our video selection and the wide range of sizes we have to offer for ALL applications.
